A Christmas Fruit Cake with a twist. Have you ever added garam masala to your fruit cake? You really should try it. It doesn’t add curry flavours to your cake, I promise. It adds deep warm winter flavours that mingle with the fruit ever so deliciously, you’ll wonder what kept you away so long.
The spices we cover for The Masala Dabba #3 are cardamom, whole pepper and turmeric. I think I love the spice journey best. We enter month #3 of our collaborative spice journey with exploring or rather ‘shooting’ spices. March is synonymous with Spring, new beginnings and a whole lot of colour. This March also had holi, the festival of colour, which inspired me to shoot several times through the month.

Winter just isn’t without the aroma of a crumble baking. Deep smells of cinnamon wafting through the house feels like a big, warm hug. My crumbles always have to have a generous topping. It really adds an indulgence to the perfectly cooked soft spiced apples that are blanketed by the crisp topping. Pecans and dried cranberries add so much texture to the bake, it’s addictive.
