BUTTERFLIES…everyone deserves a little sunshine!!

“Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine. “
Jeffrey Glassberg

The past few days have seen a nice change in the weather and have brought forth plenty of happy butterflies. I love to sit with a book in the garden, watching these fascinating creatures flutter around. The brown one on top, a little one (an inch!) has my favourite colours…beige/khaki & black . The one below , was discovered by my son, fast asleep in the Currypatta tree (Botanical name – Murraya koenigi) in the backyard…the colours reminded me of Halloween!
“I’ve watched you now a full half-hour;
Self-poised upon that yellow flower
And, little Butterfly! Indeed
I know not if you sleep or feed.
How motionless! – not frozen seas
More motionless! and then
What joy awaits you, when the breeze
Hath found you out among the trees,
And calls you forth again!”
William Wordsworth, ‘To a Butterfly’

“The caterpillar does all the work but the butterfly gets all the publicity.” Attributed to George Carlin

THE DRAGONFLY…

“Deep in the sun-searched growths the dragonfly
Hangs like a blue thread loosened from the sky.”
Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Silent Noon
The Dragonfly…
Look who was kind enough to drop by when I was airing out the Jaipuri throws yesterday. This dragonfly had plenty of beans, and was zipping around like it was enjoying the sun! Unfortunately I couldn’t get closer…am sure I will one day, and get a better picture (& hopefully a better camera too). This fellow seemed to enjoy my ‘melting’ company (the sun was HOT!) and kept coming back again & again.
These creatures are absolutely fascinating, with boundless energy, hovering around like miniature helicopters!
(Off to bake a cake today for the parent’s anniversary. Its gonna be a Pineapple Cream Cake on popular demand. Pictures tomorrow hopefully!)

PICTURE PERFECT…far beyond baking!!

“When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead;
That is the grasshopper’s…he takes the lead
In summer luxury…he has never done
With his delights, for when tired out with fun,
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.”
John Keats … On the Grasshopper and Cricket

Guess who we found when we were out catching bugs??
The kids were out with their little 2 year old cousin trying to catch butterflies last evening. This lovely looking grass-hopper or locust came hopping by. Neat little guy, who happily came into our butterfly net, and then happily wandered off…without a care in the world!
Look closely and you can almost catch the SMILE!!

CLICK for Jugalbandi…EGGS!!

“I longed to arrest all beauty that came before me.”
Julia Margaret Cameron
This entry is for one of the sites I have enjoyed visiting for a while now. It’s for an event called ‘CLICK’ hosted by Jugalbandi, and this months’ topic is ‘EGGS’!!!

These are the eggs in the nest of the Indian Tailor Bird in our front yard. I experienced the truly fascinating journey of the Indian Tailor Bird…from the stitching of the nest, to laying the eggs, the hatching eggs, the chicks being fed, developing wings and loud demanding chirps…and final freedom!! Thank you Jugalbandi for affording me a platform to share my eggciting tale!!

The fascinating journey…
Please wait...
