VOTE FOR THE EARTH – Switch off your lights for an hour!
THIS IS THE WORLD’S FIRST GLOBAL ELECTION, BETWEEN EARTH AND GLOBAL WARMING.
With the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote, Vote Earth is a global call to action for every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet.
On March 28 you can VOTE EARTH by switching off your lights for one hour.Or you can vote global warming by leaving your lights on. The results of the election are being presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. We want one billion votes for Earth, to tell world leaders that we have to take action against global warming. As I type this post, Sydney becomes the world’s first major city to plunge itself into darkness for the second worldwide Earth Hour, a global campaign to highlight the threat of climate change. From the Great Pyramids to the Acropolis, the London Eye to the Las Vegas strip, nearly 4,000 cities and towns in 88 countries planned to join in the World Wildlife Fund-sponsored event, a time zone-by-time zone plan to dim nonessential lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (By KRISTEN GELINEAU, Associated Press Writer )
My clicking these photographs started with this particular bug. We were setting off one morning when my son spotted it & asked me to take a picture. I couldn’t as we were already running late, but I knew I had seen it on my Curry tree in our yard because it slept there at night.
So I got my camera one morning and went in search of the stunning creature, only to find much more activity than I could imagine. This is a post with photographs I took in the span of an hour around the Curry tree in our yard. It was quite the most fascinating time I’ve had, & I was amazed to see the kind of diversity that could share one platform. There were insects of all sorts enjoying the Spring blossoms on our tree – bees, butterflies, wasps, bugs, flies & ants too. Complete unity in diversity, & with so much colour. The tree in itself is a boon. It gives us fresh curry leaves all year around, & is a nesting ground for doves & nightingales, and sometimes the sun bird. These days it’s the pretty Spring blossoms that keep me enthralled, & the winged creatures seem like a bonanza.
Vote for the Earth, switch off your lights, or our future generations might not be able to experience such simple beautiful pleasures!

About me: I am a freelance food writer, recipe developer and photographer. Food is my passion - baking, cooking, developing recipes, making recipes healthier, using fresh seasonal produce and local products, keeping a check on my carbon footprint and being a responsible foodie! I enjoy food styling, food photography, recipe development and product reviews. I express this through my food photographs which I style and the recipes I blog. My strength lies in 'Doing Food From Scratch'; it must taste as good as it looks, and be healthy too. Baking in India, often my biggest challenge is the non-availability of baking ingredients, and this has now become a platform to get creative on. I enjoy cooking immensely as well.

Was planning to read under the candlelight, but ended up going out with some friends. but hey, we did use minimal lights where we went, and my house lighst and appliances are definitely turned off, so technically I was participating in earth hour too. It’s such a great cause.
Beautiful photos! You’re lucky to have so many lovely insects in your garden. I hope we’ll all be enjoying these kinds of natural beauties into the future.
loved this post, and your noble persuasion to save the earth to the online community! do you know we had this event going on all the way over to Singapore?
I love the photography here and all the recipes seem really yummy. There’s so many choices to try and so little time but I’ll have to settle on one of your recipes for sure.
