HOT HOUSE & A TAG! EGGCITING TIMES!

“Noise proves nothing. Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she laid an asteroid.”
Mark Twain

“Did you get any comments on the Hot-house Mama?”, asked the boy Sunday morning. Ooooops! Red-faced, I confessed that I hadn’t posted it. It’s like both the kids want a piece of pie, & own a personal corner of my blog. That morning he hopped out of bed, barely had a glass of milk, & the doorbell began to ring. Off he raced to play soccer. Came back unrecognisable, covered in mud, because the park is full of dewy grass with winter around the corner … looked like a naughty pup, & was bundled off for a shower. Out he came, smelling sweet & asked for a fried egg for breakfast! There’s a yolk to this eggy saga…
Ever since the kids grew into semi-solids/solid food stage or the ‘fried eggs on toast, boiled eggs or an omelets stage’, I have religiously tried to offer them an egg for breakfast. They, of course, have stubbornly refused. The daughter went through an ‘I love omelet phase’ for a few months till she dumped the idea, though she’ll still have French toast once in a while. The son will not touch an egg; my genes I shamefully admit, coz neither will I. It’s been 8 LONG years … & then comes along ‘Trick TV’! Who said TV was bad.

The other day there was a trick with egg shells & disappearing kerchiefs. The boy begged for an egg shell. A cake was being made so he got his precious egg shell. In his clumsy excitement, by evening, the egg shell was history. He begged me for more, so mean ole me decided to test the waters. I told him he could have the shell if he had an egg for breakfast. My jaw almost dropped when he readily agreed, & there he was the next morning begging me for a fried egg. KIDS ???
Over the years I think I’ve collected as many egg recipes as the number of Roald Dahls the kids have collected! The eggy ideas have collected cobwebs in my brain. I dusted them off one such recipe. It said to cut a hole in a slice of bread, drop the egg into it…blah, blah, blah! I went for that. By the time, I turned the bread over, there was untold excitement & Roald Dahl was now visiting the kitchen counter. The boy was over the moon coz his beloved mother was making the egg out of Roald Dahl’s book. Unknowingly smart me? Didn’t know something like this existed in books! Hot House Egg was announced…I didn’t know that was what they called it in cooking parlance. See, TV ain’t that bad at all!! Here’s the recipe straight from the horses mouth…

I was recently tagged by Crazy Asian Gal, Palidor. Though I am petrified of tags & memes, I still crept into her blog in the cover of the night to check it out. Revelation…simple & fun. No tearing my soul apart for this, no skeletons tumbling out…YAY!! (Lesson learnt: Don’t jump to conclusions; be open minded)
