RED BELL PEPPER, WALNUT & GOUDA FRENCH FOUGASSE…a little banter!
“Everyone is kneaded out of the same dough but not baked in the same oven.” Yiddish Proverb In our foodie web world, I find a couple of things that seem to unite people the most these days – desserts, bread and blogging. It’s virtual unification without borders. A connection made at different levels, be it blogs, twitter, social networking sites, virtual cookbook launches … one thing is common, and that is GOOD FOOD!! My post today touches a couple of these. One of them is bread, something that is inherent to cuisine across the world, often a basic part of the menu. The idiom, break bread, or eat together, adds…

ALMOST NO KNEAD BAGUETTE, and some ROMESCO TOO!
“He who has no bread has no authority”Turkish Proverb The perfect baguette? Elusive as ever, but this one was very near. The best I’ve ever made, and the most satisfying in many ways. Have made a French loaf earlier, Julia Child’s French Loaf, which had me huffing and puffing for days to end, with an 18 page long set of instructions! But by the time I was ready to bake the bread, it was all well worth the effort. That was a Daring Bakers challenge way back in Feb ’08, my second challenge, which had me scribbling plenty, making notes, charts. Then I seemed to have all the time in…

BALSAMIC & HERB LAMB CHOPS, FRENCH FOUGASSE…& PEACH & MIXED FRUIT CRUMBLES!
“Talk of joy: there may be things better than beef stew and baked potatoes and home-made bread – there may be.” David Grayson We had a good meal … it was yummy. I was in a mood to cook LOTS, & the lad joined in with his requests! At the meat shop yesterday, while I was trying to find direction in what to buy, he requested for lamb chops … “like you had made earlier Mama”, he said, “and the ‘French fries’ too!” Those refer to Greek Roasted Potatoes that I often make from Kalofagas. I sometimes do a variation on them … an addition of lots of garlic, &…

CHIPOTLE GARLIC FOCACCIA & ROMESCO DIP
“We may not be able to get certainty, but we can get probability, and half a loaf is better than no bread.” C.S. Lewis Made some scrumptious Chipotle Garlic Focaccia some days ago, & it’s begging me to get posted. The pressure of posts lining up is threatening to burst my drafts folder, as I struggle with this silly writer’s block. No time on hand is another matter altogether, & as I recently said to Judy (on Twitter obviously) – It’s a wonder we get anything done…half my recent life has been twittered away!! And then of course there’s always the Greek foodie, Peter, who twitters about wondering which post…

PIZZA WITH 5 MINUTES A DAY DOUGH…I’m a convert! Happy Earth Day too!
“The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”Peter @ Kalofagas via Twitter Must begin my post by giving credit to the quote I grabbed the minute I read it. It belongs to the ‘Greek God of Food’, Peter. Check out his blog @ Kalofagas (you probably have already), to see what I mean. He twittered the quote a few days ago, & I leaped to it, asking him if I could use it, & he willingly parted with it. I never let a good quote opportunity pass me by. Thank you Peter! It’s Earth Day today. To quote Mother Earth News, April is officially Earth…

ARTISAN BREAD or NO-KNEAD BREAD…Finally made it!
“If thou tastest a crust of bread, thou tastest all the stars and all the heavens.” Robert Browning OK, I’m part of the club too. Finally, after all the bread bakers, their neighbours, cousins, aunts, & just about everyone has made & talked about this artisan bread, I’ve finally had a go!! Five Minutes a Day, just five minutes & voila…you have dough. Been reading of this sensational bread for ages, & the picture was firmly stamped in my mind when I first saw it on Paula’s blog @ Dragon’s Kitchen back in July last year. Her loaf was stunningly pretty, moreish, rustic & has remained on my list of…
