Fresh Peach Ginger Peasant Cakes … a vegetarian twist to Julie & Julia’s clafoutis!
“I think the inner person is the most important. . . . I would like to see an invention that keeps the mind alert. That’s what is important.”Julia Child The release of Julie & Julia has led to a Julia Child wave among blogs, food blogs in particular. Elle’s New England Kitchen & Food Blogga featured some beautiful blog posts on the film. Do head for their blogs as Elle & Susan have some sweet sound bites on the film. The film’s official blog, Julie & Julia also is well worth a visit. The other day I saw a beautiful Cherry clafoutis that Val posted @ More Than Burnt Toast.…

Chocolate Genoise Cake with Mocha Mascarpone … cake nirvana
“All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much”George Harrison I don’t think it’s going to be easy going back to regular frosting or whipped cream again. This was my maiden attempt at making homemade mascarpone, & I cannot believe how luxurious cream can get. Bless the Italians. Panna Cotta has been on my faves as dessert for long enough; now along comes mascarpone! WOW!! I bought a local brand of mascarpone a while ago, used it with Balsamic Strawberries here, though the dessert was delicious, the mascarpone itself was very disappointing. My homemade one just ROCKED! I made the mascarpone for my dad’s birthday…

Chocolate Strawberry Cake and a tart that didn’t oblige!
“When your mother asks, “Do you want a piece of advice?” it is a mere formality. It doesn’t matter if you answer yes or no. You’re going to get it anyway.”Erma Bombeck Happy Mother’s Day! To all you great Mum’s out there, this one’s for you. “I love it. Who wouldn’t like the smell of chocolate?”Maria Negron And yet another gem from Mary @ The Food Librarian. One look at the Cinnamon Chocolate Bundt Cake & I knew it was on my ‘to do very quick’ list. She made it 4 times in that particular week, for friends, colleagues etc, & had the recipe memorised by the end of it. Mary got the recipe from another beautiful blog that I discovered thanks to this cake, Vintage Visuals that Ellie writes. A refreshing place to visit, lovely pictures & a supre lot of recipes waiting to be tried. Time to boookmark again!!This is one smart looking bundt,…

Chocolate Banana Walnut Brownie Cake
“They look more attractive than a regular cake and they do not have to be frosted to be good.”Linda Edwards Over-ripe bananas & never a free moment to bake. A dilemma I used to face often, but not anymore! How often have you looked a banana in the face & thought you’d better use it before it becomes history? My kids will eat a banana only if it’s fresh, with a bright yellow peel, & above all, it’s got to be ‘good looking’.Tall order for this humble fruit which is said to contain everything a human needs and they contain all the 8 amino-acids our body cannot produce itself. Eat…

Dorothy Mae Brown’s Apple Spice Cake
“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.” Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara There’s a great foodie blog I recently discovered & I absolutely love what she does. She bakes WONDERFUL stuff, mainly cakes, & I’m really having a hard time keeping up. Seem to get into a bookmarking frenzy each time I get to the Food Librarian, and the Dorothy Mae Brown Apple Spice Cake was no exception. This cake is one I bookmarked off her blog on Friday, the 13th, quite the minute I laid my eyes on it. I felt an instant ominous ring to my bookmarking because of…
