My Portfolio … Styling & Photography
Colours fascinate me, every ray of light has me mesmerised. I shoot only in natural light, something that I absolutely love. After baking and creating desserts, styling & photography is my second love! Ingredients, desserts, props, spices, birds, animals, dogs, flowers, places, people, rustic things … I want to shoot everything!
While food and desserts is what I began shooting, I’ve styled and at times shot my fair share of products that are not edible yet take my creative touch easily. Pottery, Kitchenware, Appliances, Skin care, Hair care, Ayurveda, Lifestyle products is some of what I’ve done.
The day I held my fathers old Kodak camera with a snug brown leather case in my hand, almost 50 years ago, the way I looked at things changed. The fact that you could capture images and store them someplace other than just in your head was fascinating. Those years went by frugally, images captured after much thought because a roll of Kodak had limited exposures.
Everything changed for me once my husband brought me a Panasonic G9 digital camera from HKG in 2007, and this blog was born! Other than infinite images, there was instant gratification, and how! I was hugely inspired by a couple of pastry chefs on an international baking group I was a member of, The Daring Bakers, and timidly began trying to better my styling, frames and images. It was a journey I fell in love with along the way, and there’s been no looking back. Colours fascinate me, every ray of light has me mesmerised.
I have never mastered the art of camera technology, I don’t understand manual photography yet I try and shoot what I see, and I absolutely love it! Oh, I also shoot only in natural light because I think food looks best natural light, possibly a skill I’ve honed over time! My signature style of course is dark and moody, though I love shooting anything and everything that catches my eye!
So here’s a TINY collection of images I’ve taken over the years, and I have millions, hard drives full! These are a random selection of things close to my heart – food styling, food photography, creating desserts, collecting bric-a-brac, traveling, exploring India, chocolate, coffee, seasonal produce … the underlying sentiment, always LIGHT & COLOUR!
