Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: NO MEAN BEAN – A VANILLA BEAN
Ah, you flavor everything; you are the vanilla of society” Sydney Smith When Foodbuzz invited proposals for September’s 24 24 24 I knew it was time to explore my favourite bean, and I’m thrilled they picked me. No, I’m not talking about the French bean, neither the kidney, not the haricot, unfortunately not the java bean…and NO, not even Rowan Atkinson. It was time to get to the heart of the VANILLA BEAN! My exposure to this intriguing bean, in essence, actually knowledge of it’s very existence came via 2 of my favourite blogs – Canelle et Vanille & Tartlette. Both blogs beautifully inspirational, nurtured by ‘Pastry Chef’ bloggers who…

ROASTED RED BELL PEPPER & LAMB PASTA…HHDD & CLICK
“Cookery is not chemistry. It is an art. It requires instinct and taste rather than exact measurements.”Marcel Boulestin This is my first entry for a Hay Hay it’s Donna Day event, & for some reason the event makes me somewhat nervous. I’ve wanted to be part of it for long, but can’t figure out if I meet the bill, or am on the right track. Just one of those things I guess… The Hay Hay it’s Donna Day food blogging event started back in October 2005 when fellow food blogger Barbara from Winos and Foodies blogged about a Donna Hay recipe entitled “Self-Frosting cupcakes”. Barbara invited bloggers to share their…

Strawberry Curd Cheese Tartlets
“Scenes of strawberries, across crisp farmland.”Michael Easton It’s time for that ‘something sweet’ again, & I’m on a strawberry high. The market is quite flooded with strawberries, & I just can’t seem to get enough of this passionate berry. At the risk of flooding my blog with this fruit, I’m here once again with a strawberry something. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, but there’s plenty more strawberries in the pipeline! I’ve even begun freezing a couple of bags to use after the fresh ones disappear. Nic sent me a real yummy bag of Belgian White Chocolate Strawberries, which we really enjoyed eating. They were part of a virtual Indian…

Strawberry Refrigerator Cheesecake
“You can’t just eat good food. You’ve got to talk about it too. And you’ve got to talk about it to somebody who understands that kind of food.” Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Still on a dessert spree. Looks like main course has deserted my blog. Some more strawberries mean some more sweet somethings. We had quiche for lunch & chicken pie, as a result of which I’ve had just about enough of eggs, & was looking for anything eggless to make, & with strawberries. Electricity has been disappearing every alternate hour at will, so an important criteria was something not baked. A few days ago a local blogger Nachiketa called me…

MANGO JELLY MOUSSE WITH CHOCOLATE…bidding a sweet farewell!
“I love fruit, when it is expensive.” Sir Arthur Wing Pinero The mango season cometh, & now, the mango season goeth!! I think it’s now sadly the fag end of the much touted & celebrated mango season in India…& all stone fruits have beaten a retreat one by one. We are enjoying the last clutch of pretty expensive mangoes which are tortuously bidding us adieu…which meant it was time to make a mangoee something with chocolate for Meeta’s What’s For Lunch Honey? for her event, Monthly Mingle August 2008: Fruit & Chocolate. She called for a combination of fruit & chocolate & I thought this up on a day I…

…& LIFE COMES FULL CIRCLE – CLICK CITRUS!
“The distance doesn’t matter, it is only the first step that is difficult.” Marie de Vichy-Chamrond Life comes a full circle in many more ways than 1. Yes, I’m 1 year old in blogland & everyday offers exciting, new insights & views galore. Gathered some courage to peek into my first couple of posts & know now how far I’ve come. One of my first posts were not even remotely related to baking…the Indian tailor Bird in our yard, which adopted a plant in our garden & sewed a nest, laid eggs, hatched the chicks…which flew crookedly from plant to plant! I followed crookedly with a camera not knowing that…
