{No Bake/ Summer Drink} GINGER & PEACHY BUBBLES … Ginger Ale & Peach Consommé
“Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun” Noel Cowards The origin of that expression is from Rudyard Kipling who once described the delirium produced by the sun in India, observing that only “mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun”. We fitted in right with it when we went out in the afternoon yesterday. Was it hot, or was it hot? Mr PAB, who is just recovering from a bad bout of tummy virus, dehydration and subsequent hospitalisation, had some urgent pending work, so yours truly volunteered to play chauffeur! What kept me going was the thought of getting back home to some chilled ale!…

Orange Patisserie Tartlets with Candied Tangerines … A Hand For Haiti
“We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” Native American Proverb My days of orange seem neverending! Orange seems to be colouring my world with its refreshing colour and fragrance! I made these delectable little pastry tartlets a while ago when the tangerine season began. I had left over tangerines from making this fantastic Bitter Orange Marmalade, and the idea for the tartlets and candied tangerines was inspired by a post I saw at Helen’s @ Tartlette. The picture remained in my mind for long. Fortunately with left over tangerines on one particular day, I also had left-over egg yolks! From where? Where else? No prizes for guessing…

Foodbuzz 24, 24, 24: NO MEAN BEAN – A VANILLA BEAN
Ah, you flavor everything; you are the vanilla of society” Sydney Smith When Foodbuzz invited proposals for September’s 24 24 24 I knew it was time to explore my favourite bean, and I’m thrilled they picked me. No, I’m not talking about the French bean, neither the kidney, not the haricot, unfortunately not the java bean…and NO, not even Rowan Atkinson. It was time to get to the heart of the VANILLA BEAN! My exposure to this intriguing bean, in essence, actually knowledge of it’s very existence came via 2 of my favourite blogs – Canelle et Vanille & Tartlette. Both blogs beautifully inspirational, nurtured by ‘Pastry Chef’ bloggers who…

DARK CHOCOLATE ICE-CREAM…for days when life hands you yolks!!
“O when the yolks, come marchin’ in, O when the yolks come marching in, There’s gonna be dessert tomorrow, O when the yolks come marchin’ in…” These are pretty happy days for the family. Desserts of every kind entice them, and footfalls from the mac attack seem to be never ending! Faux tiramisu, mango mascarpone budini, basil sandwich cookies, flat pathetic macs … the sweet run continues. The last day of mac frenzy left me with something I didn’t particularly relish the thought of … egg yolks , and 6 of them! I’m pretty much an egg yolk hater. I’ve confessed this several times, yet have passion to bake. Eggs…

Strawberry Curd Cheese Tartlets
“Scenes of strawberries, across crisp farmland.”Michael Easton It’s time for that ‘something sweet’ again, & I’m on a strawberry high. The market is quite flooded with strawberries, & I just can’t seem to get enough of this passionate berry. At the risk of flooding my blog with this fruit, I’m here once again with a strawberry something. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, but there’s plenty more strawberries in the pipeline! I’ve even begun freezing a couple of bags to use after the fresh ones disappear. Nic sent me a real yummy bag of Belgian White Chocolate Strawberries, which we really enjoyed eating. They were part of a virtual Indian…
