WORLD OATMEAL COOKIES … with Dried Cranberries, Crystallised Ginger, Walnuts & Raisins
“I’ll feed them milk and cookies.”Brent Sutter I love a good oatmeal cookie. Had a bag of dates & thought I’d do a date & walnut something. Surfed the net for ages looking for something ‘cookie’ to make with dates & walnuts. Obviously & predictably, got hopelessly distracted, & ended up making these tasty morsels … without using dates of course! Not really sure if I would like dates in my cookies, I played around with ingredients in an old oatmeal cookie recipe I had. Ended up with these delish cookies, using some crystallised ginger & dried cranberries I had on hand. What I like about this recipe is that…

“It’s Spring fever. That’s what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want… oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”Mark Twain It’s Easter Sunday, the kids are chomping away at these yum shortbread cookies like little Easter bunnies. Making these iced cookies have been a totally relaxing & therapeutic experience for me. Colour=Mood Upliftment! Good tasting, good looking food is even better! I’ve been trying to put this post out since early this morning, but somehow life doesn’t respond to my hypnotic powers on holidays. It’s almost evening & I’ve…

ARTISAN BREAD or NO-KNEAD BREAD…Finally made it!
“If thou tastest a crust of bread, thou tastest all the stars and all the heavens.” Robert Browning OK, I’m part of the club too. Finally, after all the bread bakers, their neighbours, cousins, aunts, & just about everyone has made & talked about this artisan bread, I’ve finally had a go!! Five Minutes a Day, just five minutes & voila…you have dough. Been reading of this sensational bread for ages, & the picture was firmly stamped in my mind when I first saw it on Paula’s blog @ Dragon’s Kitchen back in July last year. Her loaf was stunningly pretty, moreish, rustic & has remained on my list of…

SUN DRIED TOMATOES SANS THE SUN!
“A world without tomatoes is like a string quartet without violins.” Laurie Colwin Making hay while the sun shines…? Well, I made sun dried tomatoes when the sun didn’t shine. Actually, the vegetable vendor had a bounty of the most luscious looking tomatoes one day… red, juicy & going cheap – Rs 10 a kilo (25 cents) for the beauties. Irresistible as usual, so I bought 2 kilos to make sun dried tomatoes, but the next 2 days were foggy & dreary as luck would have it, with worse weather forecast to follow. Back to the ever dependable net, & browsing led me to a simple recipe for ‘How to…

NIGHT ON THE ROCKS…& HARRY’S (Sydney Part III)
It seemed like we were in Sydney for just a clutch of days, half of them whizzed by helplessly when the daughter fell ill. Still, looking back, we magically managed to do so much & more. My travelogue continues… . It was a NIGHT ON THE ROCKS. The only day we managed to fix the kids at home with take-out (pizza, what else?), got them a bunch of films & drove for a trip out downtown. We’ve done The Rocks during the day before, on our last trip, but Sydney downtown at night is sensational. I’m glad we did it when we did, coz even though we thought we’d hit…
