Thick, Chewy Granola Bars … you left us smitten!
“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Ralph Waldo Emerson A visit to Smitten Kitten always leaves me enamoured and charmed. Deb’s always got something that holds my attention. It’s often simple comfort food. Beautiful brownies, awesome cakes, or then something as simple as these thick, chewy granola bars. The beauty of her posts is the passion she does them with. She bakes from scratch, her commentary is engaging, and her posts have brilliant photographs. These granola bars, adapted from King Arthur Flour, had her readers, including me, quite smitten. They are extremely rich and available almost everywhere across canada.…

This month we were led into a merry dance; the challenge was to find ‘FEET’. Hail the great French macaron/macaroon, an elegant French cookie that I find entirely temperamental and fiddly. One that has reduced me to tears in the past, brought me to my knees in the quest for ‘feet’…yet one that gave me untold joy when I finally found them. The 2009 October Daring…

Roasted Plum Brown Sugar Cakes … delicious desserts!
“What is more mortifying than to feel that you have missed the plum for want of courage to shake the tree?”Logan Pearsall Smith T’was the day after Diwali, and the bazaars were finally nice and empty. The festive frenzy had ceased, & I could stroll at leisure. The fruit vendor came to me with a clutch of plums, firm, large & very tempting. While he tried to talk me into buying them, I could see Aran‘s beautiful Roasted Plum Muscavado Sugar Cakes in the back of my head. I didn’t need convincing at all! Came home bounding with renewed energy. Yes, indeed a bonanza to find some plums when fall…
