There is no ‘main dish pressure’, the leftovers are mine to use; no demands whatsoever. The end result is always full of suspense! These little tarts are the result of one such experiment… A FRESH BASIL LEAF ADDS TO COLOUR & TASTE I made these teeny savoury tartlets with the pastry dough left over from the quiche the other day. Ever since I’ve seen these mini bites, I’ve been fascinated by the little things & was looking for an opportunity to make them. There’s something very attractive about single sweet morsels because each piece has a ‘complete‘ look . Eventually made them for the daughter’s birthday, & coordinated them to match the colours & look of her ‘YIN YANG Chocolate Cake‘, pictured below. MENU FOR OUR MAD TEA PARTY…

Some I have posted before & the rest I shall put into words by & by. I made the stuff over a period of 3-4 days. The fact that its winter here & freezing cold helped ‘coz its so much easier make stuff in advance. This is the cake that we bake every year around this time & always under pressure! My mother usually gets there only by new year, so hers’ is now more or less a ‘New Year Fruit Cake’. It’s from an old recipe of hers from a baking course she did many many moons ago when my Dad was still in the Air Force. I’ve adapted it, made a few more changes this year…& we’ll get to know how it tastes tonight. Its sitting there, smelling…
