DOUBLE CHOCOLATE ALMOND TORTE FOR MUM’S BDAY
‘Life is like a chocolate cake, Take something bitter, something dry, something wet, and a little bit of leaven, mix well, and let it bake someplace hot. The result is something sweet!’ ~ Unknown~ Flew in from Sydney a day before my Mom’s birthday, which falls on the 24th of November, with a sick child on hand so no hope for cake. But the daughter made a miraculous recovery on home ground & all her hunger pangs were back in full force. Past doctor visits, blood tests & test results the next morning, she was declared clear to return to normal food…so the 2 of us raced home to bake…

A LITTLE MORE OF WONDERFUL SYDNEY…& A RECIPE TOO!!
And then we run into the next bit of my Sydney travelogue…(Part 1 is here) The next couple of days were ours alone as the DH had to fly to HKG for his annual meeting (which had been originally scheduled for Sydney, which is why we planned the visit in the first place!). So we made merry…first we stopped by to see a cricket match. Uliana’s son is the Captain of his team, & this was almost the last of the season’s matches. CHOCOLATE TARTLETS…Mini pastry shells filled with chocolate ganache.
“If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you’re eating it too slowly.” Author Unknown CHOCOLATE TARTLETS… …Mini pastry tarts filled with a ganache, topped with marzipan. Ever since I’ve seen these mini bites, I’ve been fascinated by the little things & was looking for an opportunity to make them. There’s something very attractive about single sweet morsels because each piece has a ‘complete‘ look . Eventually made them for the daughter’s birthday, & coordinated them to match the colours & look of her ‘YIN YANG Chocolate Cake‘, pictured below. The recipe for the pastry cases / pie shells is from a quaint little book of contemporary recipes called…
