PRALINE PUMPKIN PIE … FALLING FOR DESSERT!
“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.” Laurie Colwin An exciting new cookbook, Park Avenue Potluck CELEBRATIONS is being published today. When Kelsey @ The Naptime Chef invited me for the virtual “dinner” party for the books’ publications, I was delighted, and said yes quickly. Kelsey and I had met earlier at Monica Bhide’s virtual dinner for Modern Spice, and we hope one day we meet in real time too. Park Avenue Potluck Celebrations is a beautiful user-friendly cookbook, and is once…

Dorothy Mae Brown’s Apple Spice Cake
“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.” Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara There’s a great foodie blog I recently discovered & I absolutely love what she does. She bakes WONDERFUL stuff, mainly cakes, & I’m really having a hard time keeping up. Seem to get into a bookmarking frenzy each time I get to the Food Librarian, and the Dorothy Mae Brown Apple Spice Cake was no exception. This cake is one I bookmarked off her blog on Friday, the 13th, quite the minute I laid my eyes on it. I felt an instant ominous ring to my bookmarking because of…

PUMPKIN PANNA COTTA…Pumpkin Spice & All Things Nice!
“Ask not what your Pumpkin can do for you, ask what you can do for your pumpkin!” I walked into the bazaar the other morning to come face to face with a very excited vegetable vendor. He knows my glee at any new veggie or fruit that shows up locally, & always picks a few good ones & saves them for me. He was waiting with something new which he called Chinese ‘kaddu’ or Chinese pumpkin. It’s strange, but most new veggies that appear seem to bear a generic China name. The large garlic we use is referred to as China garlic & now this pumpkin too. I think it’s…

Cardamom Spiced Cake … spicing up life with cardamom
“Variety’s the very spice of life, That gives it all its flavor”William Cowper Leafing through the Australian Women’s Weekly book on CAKES that my friend recently brought for me when she was visiting from the UK, I stopped at this Cardamom-spiced Cake. Not that I’m a huge fan of cardamom, (though the hub & boy certainly are), but because it had a little note that said this cake was a new take on the Armenian nutmeg cake. Reading the note took me right back to when I began blogging... When I began this blog in August 2007, for the want of nothing better to do, it was the first cake…

MOCHA WALNUT CHOC-CHIP MUFFINS…GREEDY GOODNESS!!
“I believe the world to be a muffin pan, and there certainly are a lot of muffins here.” Aaron Funk Mocha Walnut Chocolate-chip Muffins… When I read about theSnackshots #3 event hosted by Michelle @ Greedy Gourmet , I was thrilled. Opportunity to try these mocha muffins I had bookmarked long ago, & soon. Michelle asks “What’s the difference between a muffin and cupcake? …A muffin contains less sugar and doesn’t have icing on top, in other words it’s healthier. ” My choice of muffin is deep, dark, decadent & chocolaty; the flavours enhanced with the addition of coffee. Am still trying to place the source on the net; I…

CHOCOLATE-CHIP PISTACHIO COOKIES…& SERENDIPITY!
“Me want cookie!”Cookie Monster Chocolate-chip Pistachio Cookies This was the day after making the chocolate pistachio fudge. I was plenty inspired with the great combination of chocolate & pistachios & decided to explore it some more. Time to substitute the walnuts in my chocolate chip cookies with pistachios! Oooooooooooh…for a nut which is not quite popular or as visible as pecans or walnuts, I’m amazed at the potential it has! This cookie tasted great; very nice indeed. I’ve also seen some great pistachio panna cottas on the net. Another delightful thing about pistachios is the visual appeal. They add a burst of colour to whatever they are added to, more…
