Gâteau à l’Orange … Orange you glad I made this?
“Orange is the happiest color.” Frank Sinatra Tweeting always has sweet surprises on the deck! The wonderful and talented SaffronBerry girl, found this orange cake when the Persian in her became obesessed about finding an orange cake recipe. As she said, “You’ll know we’re a bit obsessive and weird about our citrus fruit. We hoard it, display it, eat it, drink it, preserve it, dry it, cook it, and I’m sure we’d bake it too if there were a tradition like that of Western baking in Iran, heck we’d probably wear oranges and lemons if we could find a way to.“ I absolutely adored the way she summed up her…

Fresh Fruit Cake … Adieu 2008!
“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” Oprah Winfrey Like all good things in life come to an end, 2008 has come to an end too. It’s been a good year in blogland, filled with loads of new friends, food & a whole lot of fun. It’s had its low moments too, where we sadly lost some good blogger friends like Bri to cancer, & Sherry who suffered a fatal heart attack. Low again because world peace got shattered often, & the same old helpless feeling crept into our lives again. High because we now know that we can make a difference, however…

The Very Versatile Pound Cake…
“Wouldst thou both eat thy cake and have it?” George Herbert The Pound Cake…very versatile! Time & again I return to making my first love in cakes, the pound cake. I have 1 bundt pan which I guard with my life & love the way it turns out my precious pound cake. Perfect & pretty every single time, for the ‘once in a while’ rich buttery cake that uses 200gms of butter, this is just the most satisfying bake. A traditional British Pound Cake recipe would specify one pound each of flour, butter, eggs (8 eggs), sugar, and several kinds of dried fruit (currants, sultanas, and raisins, with perhaps a…

CHOCOLATE ORANGE CLOUD GATEAU…WALKING ON CLOUDS!!
“After about 20 years of marriage, I’m finally starting to scratch the surface of what women want. And I think the answer lies somewhere between conversation and chocolate.” Mel Gibson Chocolate Orange Cloud Gateau… I love cake making occasions & am beginning to explore newer avenues. Loads of experience & some success has made me bolder! One of the 2 books that are parked at my bedside are ‘Cream Cakes & Gateaux’ by Sue Ross. She says …‘Homemade cream cakes are irresistibly compulsive – and you don’t have to be an expert to gain perfect results. Even the most spectacular results need no more than a quick final assembly of…

FROSTED STRAWBERRY ORANGE CHOCOLATE-CHIP CUPCAKES…Strawberry fields forever!
“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.” Julia Child Frosted Strawberry Orange Chocolate-chips Cupcakes…merging flavours! I was making mini vanilla cupcakes for a friend’s daughters’ birthday the other day,& had some batter leftover. With Arfi’s Cupcake Spectacular 2008 on my mind, I scrabbled around in the fridge looking for something different I could put together…other than a regular vanilla muffin. AHA…found 4 strawberries which were crying out to be used! Further exploration revealed some oranges too, so I set to work. These cupcakes were flavoured beautifully & made luscious little bites…good enough for dessert too; can’t go wrong with strawberry, orange & chocolate! Topped them off…

FRUITS AT WORK…A FRUITY DESSERT & A WIERD MEME!
“There is greater relish for the earliest fruit of the season.” Marcus Valerius Martialis, Roman poet Fruits at work…Strawberry, Kiwi, Orange & Basil The minute winter begins to go away, the mind defrosts & begins to work overtime again. There is so much colour in the fruits & veggies appearing on the shelves, that I find it impossible to sit back & relax!! This is the result of one such instance…one fruity dessert that I tried for the first time last year & we loved it. It’s very simple as there’s no cooking involved; full of fruit, full of flavour, & colourful as ever. Very tropical & summery feel to…
