{No Bake/Frozen} PEACH-GINGER & PLUM-VANILLA GRANITA … bidding adieu to stone fruit
Worldly things were of little meaning. She lived for hamburgers, ice cream, pencil and paper. Carol Adams I’m really really gutted and you might wonder why. I feel as if I lost the first prize and walked away with the consolation prize. At the heart of my misery is my rather late discovery of the granita. Have actually contemplated making it quite often, but never with such a sense of urgency until I saw this post on House of Annie. I was generally googling for something fun and refreshing to do with the last plums and peaches of the season, and this particular post had me gaping! Annie had made…

{No Bake/ Cooler} PLUM LEMONADE!
If life gives you lemons, and you are lucky enough to have plums too, …make plum lemonade! I bookmarked this the minute I saw it. The summer through, I keep a pitcher of fresh lime juice waiting for the kids when they come back from school, exhausted from the severe heat and looking for cool respite. They absolutely love fresh lime juice and guzzle it down hungrily, greedily sucking at the ice cubes in the end. When the Indian phalsa berry season was on, they enjoyed this phalsa cooler, and once in a while they luxuriated with a tall glass of peach ice tea {from a mix unfortunately}. Home made…

{Baking} Stone Fruit Almond Crumble … baking in the midst of rubble, and LOVING it!!
“Mind like a sieve these days and the attention span of a flea!!” Jeanne Horak @ Cooksister I love the quote above. Words from Jeanne @ CookSister in emails being exchanged a couple of days ago, much of it nonsensical light banter. It coined the way I felt, and I was absolutely taken in by the rhythm of the words! My foodie world has been thrown into disarray and I often feel at odds. It’s a world of rubble, heat and dust, the odd shower thrown in, which adds to humidity. There is SO MUCH on the mind, and the additional want to ‘blog & tweet‘ doesn’t help… The…

Baking | STONE FRUIT & CHOCOLATE CLAFOUTIS … with flaxseed!
“A man’s worth has its season, like fruit.” Francois de La Rochefoucauld As usual, my fridge is stuffed to the gills with an assortment of stone fruit. The weather is wonderful with the monsoons {rainy season in India} showing up, and a gentle breeze blowing through the house on most days. Two days ago, I was dog tired as the school vacations were still on, the kids had friends from Ukraine over for the day, but the weather was perfect for baking! So what did I have in the fridge? A bag of peaches,…

{Baking} Ottolenghi’s Individual Cherry & Plum Clafoutis … & a chance to win a Kitchen Aid Mixer
“If Life is a Bowl of Cherries, what Am I Doing in the Pits?” Erma Bombeck YIKES I did it again!! Yes, it was back to the Ottolenghi cookbook for the nth time. Well I had cherries, neatly pitted in a bowl, all thanks to a cherry pitter that Purple Foodie sent me from Mumbai. Well you see, last year I sat for hours pitting cherries by hand, one by end, and sobbed my woe begone tale on twitter. Jamie was horrified that I still lived in the stone age, and didn’t have a cherry pitter! “A what ???” I hollered right back! Never seen one here, and was entirely…

Roasted Plum Brown Sugar Cakes … delicious desserts!
“What is more mortifying than to feel that you have missed the plum for want of courage to shake the tree?”Logan Pearsall Smith T’was the day after Diwali, and the bazaars were finally nice and empty. The festive frenzy had ceased, & I could stroll at leisure. The fruit vendor came to me with a clutch of plums, firm, large & very tempting. While he tried to talk me into buying them, I could see Aran‘s beautiful Roasted Plum Muscavado Sugar Cakes in the back of my head. I didn’t need convincing at all! Came home bounding with renewed energy. Yes, indeed a bonanza to find some plums when fall…
