Ptasie_mleczko Cake or Birds Milk Cake … birthday cake and memories of Down Under
Ptasie_mleczko or Birds Milk Cake ...my adaptation. With a name as intriguing as that, I quickly jotted it down as my Ukranian friend translated it out of her mothers cookbook. There is an eternal charm in handwritten recipes of times gone by, this recipe book is from the 1960's. Neat, and well explained, the recipes all written In Ukranain talk to you, explaining each step. The measures are often in glasses from the Old Soviet Union, standardised at 200ml, a measure my sweet friend continues to use as her mother once did.

My daughter’s 9th birthday cake
One of my absolute favourites. This is the cake I did for my daughter’s 9th birthday. I made marzipan with almonds that I ground, and then the kids and me made the bits and bobs that topped the cake. The butterflies and flowers I cut out of cookie cutters. The kids did the tiny roses patiently after I taught them what I had learnt in scool. We used to make them out of crepe paper back then!!! Marzipan is such a fantastic and rewarding medium to work with. As you can see, we did the number 9 with different coloured ropes of marzipan that we combined. The ‘OOOOOOOOOHS’ and ‘AAAAAAAAAAAAHS’…

Rainbow Cake for Pinktober … THINK PINK #birthday #pinktober
This is the absolute joy of a birthday cake. Despite it being a butter rich cake, with an indulgent buttercream frosting, the Rainbow Cake is a fantastic 'once in a while' baking adventure. We loved the salted buttercream frosting.
