My daughter’s 9th birthday cake

Mehers+9th+Bday+cake
One of my absolute favourites. This is the cake I did for my daughter’s 9th birthday. I made marzipan with almonds that I ground, and then the kids and me made the bits and bobs that topped the cake. The butterflies and flowers I cut out of cookie cutters. The kids did the tiny roses patiently after I taught them what I had learnt in scool. We used to make them out of crepe paper back then!!! Marzipan is such a fantastic and rewarding medium to work with. As you can see, we did the number 9 with different coloured ropes of marzipan that we combined. The ‘OOOOOOOOOHS’ and ‘AAAAAAAAAAAAHS’ took ages to die down, only to be replaced by a battle for the butterflies and flowers once the cake was cut! Phew…what an experience!!

About me: I am a freelance food writer, recipe developer and photographer. Food is my passion - baking, cooking, developing recipes, making recipes healthier, using fresh seasonal produce and local products, keeping a check on my carbon footprint and being a responsible foodie! I enjoy food styling, food photography, recipe development and product reviews. I express this through my food photographs which I style and the recipes I blog. My strength lies in 'Doing Food From Scratch'; it must taste as good as it looks, and be healthy too. Baking in India, often my biggest challenge is the non-availability of baking ingredients, and this has now become a platform to get creative on. I enjoy cooking immensely as well.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I'd love to hear from you.
