Lavender Mascarpone Cake … as delicious as it sounds
“Birthdays are nature’s way of telling us to eat more cake.” Author Unknown I changed my blog header 2 days ago with pictures of my birthday cake. How ambitious of me when I thought I’d post the recipe alongside. 2 days have zipped by & I am still struggling with my thoughts. Time, or the lack of it, is to blame, but I got a couple of emails this morning conveying how ‘torturous’ it was not to find the recipe posted and just pictures! Then my dear tweetbuddy Yogalili tweeted… @vindee waiting as patient as a spider for the lavender cake post…… & again… @vindee Get thee to thy master’s…

DARK CHOCOLATE ICE-CREAM…for days when life hands you yolks!!
“O when the yolks, come marchin’ in, O when the yolks come marching in, There’s gonna be dessert tomorrow, O when the yolks come marchin’ in…” These are pretty happy days for the family. Desserts of every kind entice them, and footfalls from the mac attack seem to be never ending! Faux tiramisu, mango mascarpone budini, basil sandwich cookies, flat pathetic macs … the sweet run continues. The last day of mac frenzy left me with something I didn’t particularly relish the thought of … egg yolks , and 6 of them! I’m pretty much an egg yolk hater. CHOCOLATE MACARONS with PISTACHIO BUTTERCREAM … ‘FEETS, FEETS,’ I GOT ‘FEETS’
One more imaginary scowl from Monsieur Lebovitz later, quick discussions with Hilda, Aparna, & Meeta, I experimented for the 6th time that particular day. Two trays, 140C, a bowl at the bottom to absorb extra heat, resting time of an hour... and the Mr Levobitz's Chocolate Macaron recipe finally found me my 'feet'!

I've been on a soft cheese trip for a while, using my spare time trying to make mascarpone, ricotta, quark, cottage cheese etc at home.

Chocolate Genoise Cake with Mocha Mascarpone … cake nirvana
“All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much”George Harrison I don’t think it’s going to be easy going back to regular frosting or whipped cream again. This was my maiden attempt at making homemade mascarpone, & I cannot believe how luxurious cream can get. Bless the Italians. Panna Cotta has been on my faves as dessert for long enough; now along comes mascarpone! WOW!! I bought a local brand of mascarpone a while ago, used it with Balsamic Strawberries here, though the dessert was delicious, the mascarpone itself was very disappointing. My homemade one just ROCKED! I made the mascarpone for my dad’s birthday…

A LITTLE MORE OF WONDERFUL SYDNEY…& A RECIPE TOO!!
And then we run into the next bit of my Sydney travelogue…(Part 1 is here) The next couple of days were ours alone as the DH had to fly to HKG for his annual meeting (which had been originally scheduled for Sydney, which is why we planned the visit in the first place!). So we made merry…first we stopped by to see a cricket match. Uliana’s son is the Captain of his team, & this was almost the last of the season’s matches. Cricket being my fave sport, it was great to watch a live match! From there we dropped by Parklea Markets, wholesale markets under a HUGE roof, much…
