Sydney Without a Beach Visit is like Cake Without Frosting… Part IV!

balmoral+beach1

Part IV of my Sydney travelogue covers a beautiful beach we went to, after crossing the Harbour Bridge & entering North Sydney. A visit to Sydney is incomplete without a visit to the beach (or better still, beaches). It’s true…& more so for kids. We stopped by Bondi the last time we visited, which was in June of 2004…cold, windy but beautiful. SYD+2004 061This time we decided to explore Balmoral. Balmoral features Balmoral and Edwards Beaches, both of which are separated by the outcrop of Rocky Point. Both beaches are usually referred to as simply Balmoral.
IMG 1285A stunning beach, with a beautiful island of it’s own, Rocky Point. The boys had a whale of a time exploring the rocks there, climbing trees etc, but the daughter was decidedly not looking & feeling too good. balmoral+beach3The kids ran ahead to the island, while we picked up our lattes & strolled on to catch up with them. The place was fascinating, & we were very lucky indeed to witness a wedding photoshoot in progress. Take a look…was a dream wedding with an exquisitely beautiful bride, a handsome groom, & pretty bridesmaids in tow! We just sat & watched them wistfully2008 11 192Balmoral Beach in Sydney’s Middle Harbour lies just west of Middle Head, a picturesque crescent-shaped beach with its own island — Rocky Point. The Rotunda and Rocky Point Island are also popular for wedding ceremonies and photographs.mehers+camera
Carried on to the island to see if the kids were OK. The boys were climbing trees, but the daughter was quite listless…which was when I looked into her eyes & screeched! They were yellow, deep yellow…eeeks, jaundice! Well, we left the island & beach in the next 20 minutes after fixing up with the GP, consulting our paedeatrician etc… but were really glad we visited this scenic spot! balmoral+beach2

Balmoral Beach
One of the most popular tourist destinations in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia is Balmoral Beach. Balmoral Beach is situated in Sydney’s Middle Harbour, just west of Middle Head. The beach has its own island called Rocky balmoral+beachPoint. Balmoral Beach provides breathtaking views of the harbour and is an ideal place for swimming, picnic, and other activities. In fact, Balmoral Beach is the type of beach where you can bring your rollerblades, bike, football and even your dog. The beach has a reasonably smooth boulevard for rollerblading. Balmoral Beach is a great place to visit because it is just a short walk from a number of restaurants, cafes, hotels and recreation areas. The beach is also near the Taronga Zoo, Mosman Wharf and other must-see places.

I wind up Part IV of my Sydney travelogue with a picture of the kids…then & now!

About me: I am a freelance food writer, recipe developer and photographer. Food is my passion - baking, cooking, developing recipes, making recipes healthier, using fresh seasonal produce and local products, keeping a check on my carbon footprint and being a responsible foodie! I enjoy food styling, food photography, recipe development and product reviews. I express this through my food photographs which I style and the recipes I blog. My strength lies in 'Doing Food From Scratch'; it must taste as good as it looks, and be healthy too. Baking in India, often my biggest challenge is the non-availability of baking ingredients, and this has now become a platform to get creative on. I enjoy cooking immensely as well.
